What we do?
STEM, or Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, is an acronym that represents the four interrelated fields of study that are critical to the advancement of our modern world. STEM education is important because it provides students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century. STEM-based learning programs aim to inspire and engage students in these fields, providing them with the foundation necessary to pursue higher education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Unfortunately, not all students have equal access to STEM education. According to a report by the National Science Foundation, students from underrepresented minority groups and low-income families are less likely to pursue STEM careers. This lack of access to STEM education perpetuates social and economic inequality and deprives our society of the diverse perspectives and innovative ideas that these students could bring to the table.
I am passionate about increasing access to STEM education because I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their interests and reach their full potential. As a society, we cannot afford to leave anyone behind, and STEM education is critical to ensuring that all students have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.
Thus, at STEM Philadelphia, we are partnering with Philadelphia STEM Ecosystem to help schools in low-income areas to increase access to STEM education. Through this partnership, we will be able to provide hands-on learning opportunities, professional development for teachers, and access to resources and equipment that will inspire and engage low-income schools in the STEM fields. By working together, we hope to create a more equitable and inclusive future for all students, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status. This partnership is just one example of the many ways in which institutions and organizations can collaborate to increase access to STEM education and create a brighter future for our society as a whole.
